Butlins Mineworkers Championships - 2nd Section 2005Stamford Brass directed by Gary Wyatt were in a group with a number of bands who overcame unsettled opening musical statements to grow in confidence and positive performance as the piece unfolded. The bass section obviously came to Skegness with a determination and produced a clean and confident role with the 1st Eb bass being the star of their show. |

Midlands Regional Championships Third Section - 7 March 2004 Test Piece:
Vizcaya – Gilbert Vinter Stamford put up a pretty decent showing on their first outing in the Third Section last year after relegation. 7th place wasn’t a world-beater, but it showed that they were more than holding their own. A change of MD may just push them closer to the podium this year. Number one draw proved a good omen on this weekend. Stamford Brass under Gary Wyatt were awarded one of the three places in Harrogate, taking runners-up slot in the Third Section. A safe opening characterised the playing as they progressed steadily up to a nice cadenza. At [Q] the safe lid was lifted and the musical interpretation went up a notch. |
National Championships 2004 - Harrogate- Third SectionThe remaining top six places went to United Co-operative 2000 Brass playing with a rhythmic bite and zest with quite a pointed articulation, whilst fifth place went to Stamford Brass who put in an affectingly warm evocation that proved to be a committed show to catch the judges ears. |

Midlands Regional Championships
Third Section - 2 March 2003 Stamford return to the 3rd Section after a few years when they found life in the 2nd Section hard work. The band have fallen away since they performed in the 1st Section in 1999, so they will be hoping that 2003 sees them start back on the road to recovery and success. A year of consolidation may be on the cards to start with though. Stamford Brass [1] opened their piece with a 1st movement that felt a bit rushed but turned in a solid 2nd movement. The 3rd movement lacked a bit of cohesion and again they upped their playing to return a very rhythmic final section to take 7th place. Player of the day - Flugel |
